Form & Function
Matching and pairing leathers: Traditional sartorial advice goes as follows: pair a black belt with black jeans, a dark brown belt with dark denim and a tan or natural belt with lighter denim. Darker leathers are generally considered dressier and more formal than lighter ones.
Fashion-forward guys often match their shoe and watchband leathers to their belts as well, so we encourage you to pick up a matching Ashland Leather watch or Apple Watch strap. But these are just suggestions, not rules. For the adventurous dresser, a dark belt can add a pop of contrast to light trousers and vice versa. Don't be afraid to pair black jeans with a pair of white sneakers and a Horween® Color #8 belt!

All our belts, whether traditional or extra-special Chromexcel, are made with heavy-duty 9 oz. world-famous Horween® leather. The back side of the hide is resin coated for a smooth, comfortable feel that won't rough up your pants fabrics. Our belts are 1.5" wide. While they're not widest belt you've ever seen, they're definitely more girthy than a standard dress belt. The buckle hardware is solid brass with a matte patina for a classic look, and we've punched the holes in a teardrop shape to prevent stretch and distortion over years of wear.
And speaking of years, all of Ashland's products are guaranteed for life, so if something ever goes wrong with your belt (it won't), send it back to us and we'll repair or replace it forever. (Sorry, an expanding waist size is not considered a defect in the belt.)
Belt Sizing
Our heritage-crafted American leather belts are sized differently than many department store belts. Your trouser waist size is not your Ashland belt size. Our belts are measured true to size, which means the listed length number is the actual length in inches from the buckle bar to the middle hole (the 4th of 7 holes).
The single best way to find your Ashland belt size is to measure from the buckle bar (A) of your favorite belt to the hole you're currently using (B).
If you don't have a current favorite belt that fits perfectly, we recommend adding 2 inches to your pants size. (e.g. If you wear a 34 waist jean, buy the 36" long belt).
