Overbuilt for the Lifelong Journey
We’ve curated a specific 9-10 oz. Horween® Chromexcel, an exceptionally thick, heavy-duty hide selected for its tensile strength. This is heavy-duty equipment for your most loyal companion.
Most commercial collars use 4-5 oz. leather and plated zinc hardware. We’ve nearly doubled the thickness with 9 oz. Horween® Chromexcel and utilized industrial-grade solid cast brass. These materials usually reserved for professional workwear and bespoke saddlery.
The Materials
- Horween® Chromexcel (CXL): Chromexcel is the original pull-up leather; using time honored techniques and formulas that were developed nearly 100 years ago. Chromexcel is still produced in the United States using a bark retannage from a proprietary recipe, and then genuine hot stuffed with our secret blend of natural oils and greases. Chromexcel is characterized by a rich pull-up in full aniline, hand rubbed finishes. Made to this day with old world craftsmanship, modern Chromexcel carries on a long history of superior comfort and durability.
- Solid Cast Brass: Every component—the buckle, the rivets, and the D-ring—is solid cast brass. It will never rust, flake, or fail.
- Artisan Finished: Each collar features hand-waxed and burnished edges for a smooth, refined feel and an old-world aesthetic.
- Fits Neck Size: 17" – 23"
- Width: 1 Inch
- Build: Reinforced with solid brass rivets at all primary stress points.
The Ashland Standard We believe a dog collar should be as permanent as the bond it represents. By combining the world’s finest leather with uncompromising hardware, we’ve created a heritage piece that grows more beautiful with every mile walked.

Leather Care
Horween Leather: Embrace the Scuffs (and the Patina!)First time with Horween leather? You might be surprised how easily it picks up marks. But don't worry, that's a good thing! Those little scuffs are the start of a beautiful journey called patina – where your leather develops a unique character with wear. Think of it like a fine wine aging to perfection.
Most minor scuffs buff out with your finger, and everyday use actually helps polish the leather. Horween® leather is packed with natural oils, so you don't need to condition it right away. After six months or a year, give it some love with our Tanner's Blend conditioner (made by a master tanner!). A little goes a long way – just use a dab and a soft brush to keep your Ashland gear looking its best.
