Made in USA Leather Goods
Made in USA Leather Goods, Handcrafted in Chicago
Ashland Leather goods are handcrafted in Chicago, USA. We cut, stitch, and finish every wallet, belt, and bag in our Chicago shop, from Horween® leather tanned six-tenths of a mile away. That is what “made in USA” means here: American tannery, American workshop, one city.

Why it matters
Most leather goods sold as “American” are designed here and built elsewhere. Ours are not. Horween® has tanned leather in Chicago since 1905. We build a few blocks from that tannery so the leather and the finished goods share the same city, the same standards, and a short path from hide to product.
The tannery
Every Ashland piece starts with Horween® leather: Shell Cordovan, Chromexcel®, Dublin, Latigo, Cypress, and related stock we specify for the job. The tannery’s work (vegetable tannages, combination tannages, hot-stuffing, finish) is what you feel in the hand. We do not substitute offshore leather for the face of the product.

The craft
In our shop we pattern, cut, stitch, edge, and finish each piece. Construction is handcrafted, not assembly-line overseas. You get clean stitch lines, honest edges, and hardware we stand behind. When something wears in, it should look better, not fall apart.

What we make here
- Leather wallets for men (bifolds, front-pocket, card holders, money clips)
- Leather belts cut from a single strap, with a Horween® leather and sizing guide
- Briefcases and sling bags
- Dopp kits and small goods

How “made in USA” applies
Cut, stitch, and finish happen in Chicago. The leather is tanned by Horween® in Chicago. Small components (some hardware, thread, or packaging) may be sourced to the best available quality; we do not claim every single fastener is domestic until we list it that way on a given SKU.
Frequently asked questions
Are Ashland Leather products made in the USA?
Yes. We handcraft them in our Chicago shop from Horween® leather tanned in Chicago.
Is the leather American too?
The leathers we build with are from Horween Leather Company in Chicago, tanning there since 1905.
What is the difference between Made in USA and Made in Chicago for Ashland?
Ashland goods are Made in USA because the leather comes from Horween®, a U.S. tannery, and we handcraft everything in our Chicago shop. Made in Chicago is the more specific designation: both the tannery and the workshop are in Chicago, so that page carries the local story, the shop, and the tannery distance.
Do you ship Made in USA wallets and bags nationwide?
Yes. We ship from Chicago to customers across the United States (and internationally where we offer it).
Do you ship worldwide?
Yes.
Are your goods waterproof because they are made in the USA?
No. Origin does not make leather waterproof. Chromexcel® is water-resistant; nothing we sell is waterproof.
